Allstate American Football Coaches Association announced a record breaking 182 nominees for the 2014 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. These nominees announced for top college football honor recognizing outstanding community service achievements. The award recognizes players whose charitable involvement and community service contributions stand out among all other student-athletes participating in the sport.
Tevin Lake who is an Indiana native has been named one of the nominees from Marian University. Lake, who is a running back for the Knights, has an impressive community service resume. He conducted an Alzheimer’s Awareness seminar at IUPUI, runs a Big Brothers Big Sisters program on campus in conjunction with football games and has also created activities for the residents at local homeless shelters.
Indiana University safety Mark Murphy, Ball State center Jacob Richard, Vanderbilt University long snapper Andrew East were also among the Indiana natives that were nominated.
For this year’s record number of 182 nominees, a final roster of 22 award recipients then comprised of 11 players from the NCAA Football Subdivision and 11 players from the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, Divisions two and three and the NAIA, will be announced in September.
Past members of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team include Super Bowl champion quarterbacks, Peyton and Eli Manning and Heisman Trophy winners Robert Griffin III and Tim Tebow.
