Benefit radiothon for Horizon House features Jenn Cristy, other local artists

More by this author

Local musicians will share their talents this weekend in a benefit for Horizon House, an Indianapolis homeless shelter.

Indy In-Tune’s Radiothon 2015 will “take over” Sabbatical, 921 Broad Ripple Ave. on Sunday, April 26 from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. The family friendly event will feature performances from twelve local bands including Jenn Cristy, a well-known Bloomington-based folk-rock singer and bandleader; as well as the Jeremy Vogt Band, Ferris, Pres Maxson, Michael Buratto, Brian Deer, Brett Wiscons, Codemonkeyrocks, CA3, JBrown Music, The Montana Wildhacks and Foster’s Branch.

Horizon House, at 1033 East Washington St., recently claimed national attention for the story of homeless resident Bernard, who refused to abandon his beloved dog, Oreo. On May 17, Bernard and Oreo will be the featured leaders for the Walking for Dreams 5K.

Horizon House is the only full-service day center in Central Indiana, providing services to an estimated 3,400 homeless residents each year.
The program’s mission is to “affirm each person as a valuable community member, offering hospitality, restored dignity and a hopeful future.”

(Disclosure: this reporter has been a co-host on upcoming Indy In-Tune podcasts featuring sax man Rob Dixon, blues musician Harriet “Queen Delphine” Ellis and soul blues singer Tad Robinson.)
