INDIANAPOLIS – Hoosiers can get a first-hand look at and chance to talk to representatives from organizations involved with the future Avondale Meadows Health and Wellness Center during a community open house on July 26 from 6-7:30 p.m. The event will take place at the Challenge Foundation Academy, 3980 Meadows Drive. People can also participate in activities that will be offered at the center such as blood pressure screenings and Zumba.

The future $20 million, 70,000-square-foot facility, funded in part by Indiana University Health, will sit on the 100-acre Avondale Meadows redevelopment site near 39th Street and Keystone Avenue on Indianapolis’ east side. Construction should take a year to complete.

“IU Health is committed to chronic disease management and research shows the best way to manage chronic disease is to bring primary care to residents’ doorsteps,” said Sheriee Ladd, senior vice president for human resources, IU Health. “We’re hopeful residents will come out Thursday to learn more about future HealthNet center services and will stay connected throughout the building process.”

The center, expected to open in 2013, will offer expanded hours for primary care visits, personal physicians, multi-age recreational programming for 5,000 underserved residents, social and recreational programming for 1,000 youths and teens, meeting space for community organizations and family programs. Partners to be located in the center include HealthNet, YMCA, United Northeast Development Corporation and the Meadows Community Foundation, Inc.
