Indy Scream Park offers fun with plenty of fear

More by this author

I recently visited Indy Scream Park haunted house in Anderson with my boyfriend, Andre. Andre acted as if he was not scared at all. My fear did not start to sink in until we were in the ticket booth line. I was thinking, ā€˜Oh my gosh, I am really about to do this. What did I get myself into?ā€™

I tried to ask the lady at the ticket booth for a sneak peek. Unfortunately, she said although sheā€™s worked at Indy Scream Park for eight seasons, sheā€™s too scared to go through the attractions. Her response only made me more nervous, but once inside I was surprisingly relaxed.Ā

Inside, music played, you could sit around several fire pits, play games and purchase food, beer or wine from various concession stands. Before heading to any of the attractions, I wanted to grab a beer and sit by the fire to prepare myself mentally for the scares that lay ahead.Ā

However, my time by the fire was far from relaxing. As I looked around at the scenery, a bloody-faced clown sneaked behind my ear and said, ā€œBoo!ā€ I immediately jumped out of my seat in terror, screaming while Andre laughed at me.Ā

Our first haunted house and my personal favorite was Killgoreā€™s 3D Circus. Each line was anywhere between 35 minutes to an hour long. Maybe this was because it was opening night, but a fast pass option, allowing you to skip the wait, is available.Ā

The waiting only intensified the whole experience. Indy Scream Park recommends you wear 3D glasses for the ultimate experience in Killgoreā€™s 3D Circus. I wore my glasses for almost six seconds once inside before I took them off. The glasses definitely made everything more extreme and in your face. Ā

Killgoreā€™s 3D Circus had a lot of strobe lighting and mirrored rooms, so you are always wondering if itā€™s a statue or a real person. The ending was my favorite part!Ā

Some of the haunted houses are also interactive, allowing the actors to touch you and isolate you from the rest of the group. You must wear a green glow stick necklace and be 18 to participate in the extra scary option. You can take off the necklace at any time.

Similar to the 3D glasses, I wore my glow stick for almost six seconds before ripping it off. I did not like the thought of being grabbed at any time and being isolated from the group. However, Andre wore his glow stick for the entire attraction. The actors grabbed Andre and made him take a different path from the group. They took him in a dark room and had him participate in the acting. Once I saw it was not as scary as it seemed, I wanted to wear my glow stick again to join the fun. Ā
