With her Native American heritage as a focus on the Mackinac Bands of Chippewa and Ottawa Indians, Jana Harper explores her place in the competing narrative between indigenous and colonial histories. “Jana Harper–Moving with the Land, Listening to the Ancestors” includes the Tennessee-based artist’s archival and personal research, her interviews with tribal elders, as well as her search for reconnection with the land of her ancestors.

A virtual reception will take place via Zoom from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10, featuring the exhibiting artists. This event is free and open to the public with advance registration. Register to attend at go.iu.edu/3cfh.

Herron’s exhibitions are free and take place in Eskenazi Hall, 735 W. New York St. Adjusted gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesdays and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays. Group visits must be arranged in advance by emailing hgallery@iupui.edu.
