Job Corps embarks on a new recruitment campaign in Indiana

The U.S. Department of Labor’s Job Corps program is helping young adults from low-income homes in Indiana by providing immediate job openings and complimentary career training in high-growth industries.

This summer, Job Corps is launching a recruitment drive to attract 16- to 24-year-olds who are interested in apprenticeships and higher-paying professions.

Rachel Torres, national director of Job Corps, emphasized that graduates of the program are in high demand by employers and important contributors to the economy.

“Job Corps offers a path to apprenticeships and (better) careers in the nation’s fastest-growing industries. Our graduates fill a critical need for employers and the economy,” Torres said.

The two Indiana Job Corps campuses are Atterbury, located in Edinburgh, and IndyPendence, located in Indianapolis.

These campuses offer training in various career sectors, such as advanced manufacturing, automotive repair, construction, finance and business, health care, homeland security, mechanical repair and transportation.

Applicants may qualify for the career training if they receive government assistance from programs like SNAP, TANF, free or reduced school lunch or if they are experiencing homelessness or are foster youth.

For those who are age-eligible and experiencing homelessness, Job Corps offers expedited enrollment.

Job Corps is an excellent avenue for young adults to find careers, certifications and connections without accumulating student debt. It also provides a possible solution for employers in need of a workforce.

Torres expressed her pleasure regarding the revamped program.

“For students, we are a (pathway) to careers, certifications, and connections. For employers, we’re a possible solution to their workforce pipelines,” Torres said.

“It is a win-win for (Hoosiers).”

Moreover, the program launched an overhauled website. The site offers virtual tours and a virtual assistant that helps students locate a campus, industry or area of training.
