Damien Center will offer free and confidential HIV testing June 27 to commemorate National HIV Testing Day. The annual event is meant to encourage people to get tested for HIV and get connected with resources they may need. Damien Center, Indiana’s oldest and largest AIDS service organization, will offer the testing 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at its location, 26 N. Arsenal Ave.
HIV testing is done with a finger prick blood sample, so results are typically available within 20 minutes. Damien Center has free and confidential HIV and STI testing every weekday and three Saturdays each month.
About 1.1 million people in the United States have HIV, but one in seven people don’t know they have it. More than 12,500 people were living with HIV and AIDS in Indiana in 2017.
