On Monday, Aug. 21, Hoosiers will join Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT), former United Steelworkers Local 1999 President Chuck Jones, Indiana State Sen. David Niezgodski and Indianapolis City-County Councilor Jared Evans to kick off a new grassroots campaign to hold President Donald Trump accountable to his campaign pledge to create āmore jobs and better wagesā by stopping offshoring. The event will be held on Monument Circle in downtown Indianapolis beginning at 4 p.m.
Activists from the Communications Workers of America (CWA) have been working to enact legislation that will keep good call centers in Indiana and other states. Niezgodski has introduced the Call Center Workers and Consumer Protection Bill, SB 94, to crack down on offshoring in Indiana, and at the national level, Indiana U.S. Sen. Joe Donnelly is a key sponsor of similar legislation.Ā
The āPickup Tour,ā organized by Good Jobs Nation in partnership with CWA, Our Revolution and others, will travel throughout the Midwest to galvanize struggling workers in Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania ā mobilizing an army of worker citizens to take action at the national and local levels.Ā
The event in Indianapolis will be broadcast live on Facebook. Ā
