More by this author

Indiana University Health West Hospital will be providing free car seat safety inspections by certified car seat fitters on Saturday, Sept. 27 from 10 am to 1 pm outside of the IU Health West Women’s Center entrance on the east side of the Avon hospital’s campus (1111 N Ronald Reagan Parkway).

Research shows that an estimated 40 percent of children still continue to ride unrestrained and 72 percent of all car seats are used incorrectly and according to Safe Kids and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a correctly used safety seat reduces fatality risk by 71 percent and serious injury risk by 45 percent.

A limited number of free car seats will be available if your car seat is part of a recall, out dated or not the appropriate car seat for the child.

Please have your car seat/seats and your child/children with you to complete the fitting. Each fitting takes approximately 30 to 40 minutes.

No RSVP or reservation is required. Families will be helped on a first come/first served basis.
