A pothole patching crew from the Department of Public Works (DPW) could be coming soon to a street near you, but your help might be needed in guiding them there.
During the past couple weeks, DPW crews have been working overtime to address pothole requests all over the city.
Jennifer Hashem, a DPW spokeswoman, said there were about 3,500 additional pothole requests this time last year, but crews are still making patching a priority. Though patching is done year-round, March through June is the peak pothole-patching season.
A real-time map on the DPW website shows open pothole requests as well as requests that have been fulfilled. On the morning of March 29, there were 773 open pothole requests, and the DPW had closed 52 percent of all requests within three days.
The map can also be used to see if a pothole has already been reported.
Work has been focused on patching main roads in high-traffic areas and residential areas, but residents should still report potholes on low-traffic side streets and in alleys.
There are three ways to report a pothole to the city:
- Call the Mayorās Action Center at (317) 327-4622 on weekdays from 7:30 a.m.ā5:30 p.m.
- Visit maps.indy.gov/RequestIndy/ to point out a pothole on the interactive map.
- Download the RequestIndy app with an Apple or Android mobile device.
Potholes on a highway or interstate should be reported to the Indiana Department of Transportation at (317) 232-5533.
