Challenging women, girls to become unstoppable

More by this author

On Aug. 22 women and girls from the Indianapolis area will convene for the 5th Annual Raising Queens Summit, a one-day empowerment event exemplifying the theme “Unstoppable You.”

Held at Ivy Tech Community College and Culinary Center at 2820 N. Meridian St., the event will feature women in the media who will share their stories of hope and advancement.

Those presenting include, Erika Flye, anchor at WRTV-6; Donna Schiele, radio host at WTLC-AM (1310) “The Light”; Timeko Whitaker, life coach at Authentic Identity Coaching; and Shannon Williams, president and general manager of The Recorder Media Group.

Founder and CEO of Raising Queens, Cynthia Newman will act as keynote speaker to help women, teens and girls recognize Raising Queen’s Crown Jewels: Self-esteem, leadership, etiquette/social graces, financial management, wellness, spiritual development and education.

Paula Buckhaulter, who has been a part of the Raising Queens event committee for the past four years, said this year’s attendance goal is 200 women, teens and girls.

“Something new we’ve implemented this year is the teen town hall meeting, which is similar to BET’s Teen Summit,” said Buckhaulter. “This year we want to help women and girls build a playbook for success, which will help them address issues as they come up in their lives.”

Hostesses will travel with groups throughout the day to discuss any questions attendees may have about material previously addressed.

“We want people to feel empowered, to feel comfortable asking tough questions,” said Buckhaulter.

Ticket admission includes workshops for women and girls, access to the teen town hall meeting, vendor booths, Ambush Makeover Finale and a continental breakfast and lunch.

Tickets can be purchased at Eventbrite.com by searching “5th Annual 2015 Raising Queens Summit.” They will also be sold at the door.
