GARY, Ind. (AP) — Construction on a 40-unit housing complex for homeless people in northwest Indiana could begin this spring.

The (Munster) Times reports (http://bit.ly/1Oma6ku ) the planned development will be called Village of Hope and will be located in Gary. Applications could be accepted toward the end of 2016, though many tenants will likely come from referrals from service providers.

Plans call for the three-story facility to contain 21 one-bedroom, 17 two-bedroom and two three-bedroom units.

Families as well as individuals will be allowed to live at the facility. Officials also intend to provide more than housing and hope to offer job training, mental health counseling, parenting classes, nutrition services and support groups for tenants.
