Dominic Onoihendo Agbonhese

Dominic Onoihendo Agbonhese, died on Oct. 13, 2018. Mr. Agbonhese was born on Oct. 25, 1933. He was a teacher until his last day, having a passion for education surpassed only by his love for his family and friends. He graduated from St. John Bosco Teachers Training College, Ubiaja, and Uzairue Teacher Training College, both in Nigeria, and University of Bristol, London, England. An educator in Edo State Nigeria, Mr. Agbonhese held multiple positions, starting as a probationary teacher in 1950 and retired as an inspector of schools. He continued to participate in classroom teaching until immigrating to the United States in 2001.

While in Indianapolis, Mr. Agbonhese worked at Rosieā€™s Garden and Hughes Landscape, and Wishard Hospital where he retired in 2010. During his retirement, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Maria; 11 children including Dr. Mercy Obeime; and more than 20 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Ā 

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Dec. 1 at St. Monica Catholic Church, 6131 Michigan Road. A reception will be held at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Indianapolis North, 3912 Vincennes Road.
