The Indianapolis Recorder Newspaper won two awards at the 2018 Hoosier State Press Association (HSPA) Foundation Better Newspaper Contest.
Former President and General Manager Shannon Williams won second place in the Best Editorial Writer category for editorials written on the controversy regarding Rev. Stephen J. Clay and the City-County Council and the despicable issue of lynching Black citizens in America. Editorials were judged based on persuasiveness, worthiness of purpose, clarity and effectiveness.
The Recorder staff also won second place for Best Website. Judges evaluated the website on news content, design and presentation, navigation, interactivity and connectivity to other sites.
