At a time when music education is waning at many public schools, Tindley Accelerated Schools is opening a new elementary school with a music-based curriculum. Tindley Genesis Academy, whose motto is “academic excellence through the arts,” will initially serve students from kindergarten through third grade when it opens this fall at2540 N. Capitol Ave.

An open-enrollment elementary school, Tindley Genesis Academy will be Indiana’s first accelerated elementary with a focused concentration on music and the arts, filling a need in the community for music-based education. Students at Tindley Genesis will engage in concentrated music instruction throughout the school day which includes classes in instrumental music, singing, piano, and general music. At Tindley Genesis, music is also infused into the general education classroom to make learning an engaging and exciting experience for young scholars.

“Children learn in a variety of ways, and research has shown that music-based education is both engaging and advantageous to our youth in terms of language development, spatial intelligence and overall preparation for more formal learning,” said Todd Hawks, principal of Tindley Genesis.

“We’re continually focused on transforming lives through educational opportunities that work for our students, said Marcus Robinson, Chancellor and CEO of Tindley Accelerated Schools. “The addition of this school to the Tindley family provides a solid foundation for the long-term success of our scholars.”

This will be Tindley Accelerated Schools’ sixth school. At ages as young as five years old, Tindley Genesis scholars will participate in a challenging and interactive curriculum in literacy, math, science, social studies, writing, in addition to music and the arts.  Its accelerated curriculum is based on the same models used at Tindley’s middle schools and high school; and as a result, students graduate from an early college program already having earned post-secondary credits. Tindley Genesis scholars will possess the confidence, skills, and resilience to achieve success in elementary, middle school, high school, college, and beyond.

Working with partners in the arts, such as Meridian Music, the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra and Dance Kaleidoscope, Tindley Genesis will provide multiple opportunities for music education during and after the school day. On May 30, the community will have an opportunity to donate instruments at Meridian Music at 12725 Old Meridian St., Carmel, for Tindley Genesis students to use.

Parents may enroll their children now by calling Tindley Genesis enrollment office at (317) 777-6677 or emailing enrollment@tindley.org
