Keystone Towers implosion Aug. 28
Keystone Towers, 45th Street and Binford Boulevard, a long-vacant building that has become an eyesore, will be demolished by an implosion on Aug. 28 at 8 a.m.
The building was closed in 2008 when it was deemed unsuitable for human habitation by the Marion County Health Department. Since that time, it has been the scene of illegal dumping and other criminal activity.
Demolition of the property is being made possible through Neighborhood Stabilization Program (NSP) 3 funding from the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Once the towers are demolished, proposals will be taken for redevelopment of the site.
GOP candidate Cain to be in state Aug. 15
Republican presidential candidate Herman Cain will stump for support from Hoosiers in Indianapolis.
Eric Holcomb, Indiana Republican Chairman, said this week that Cain will campaign in Indiana on Aug. 15. Cain will visit the state GOP headquarters in Indianapolis and talk about the national debt.
Holcomb invited the Republican presidential candidates to the state last month. Cain is the first to accept his invitation.
Usually presidential contenders have historically ignored Indiana because primary races are typically decided before the state’s May primary and Indiana usually goes Republican in presidential elections.
But that changed in 2008 when the Democratic primary ran into May and Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton made multiple campaign stops in the state.
Obama won the state by a slim margin in the November 2008 General Election.
Social Security benefits will be paid on time
Michael J. Astrue, commissioner of Social Security, announced that Social Security payments for Aug. 3 have been made on time and as scheduled. Payments for Aug. 10, 17, and 24 will be made as scheduled.
“I am happy to announce there will be no delay in the payment of August Social Security benefits,” Commissioner Astrue said, “which should be a relief to those people who were concerned about their benefits. I’m pleased the president and Congress were able to come together in a bipartisan fashion to avoid an interruption in payments.”
People still receiving paper checks from Social Security should consider signing up for Direct Deposit, the secure and convenient way to receive Social Security payments. All current beneficiaries must switch to electronic payments by March 1, 2013.
