In a heavily contested battle to represent the 7th Congressional District in the general election, incumbent U.S. Rep. André Carson emerged the victor over five other candidates, garnering 87.85 percent of the vote. Challenger Sue Spicer came in a distant second with 8.19 percent of the vote. Carson will face Republican nominee Wayne (Gunny) Harmon in the general election in November.
In another closely watched race, Kerry Forestal beat opponent Bill Benjamin to become the Democratic nominee for sheriff. Brian K. Durham won the Republican nomination for sheriff.
