Author-dietician promotes biblical healthy habits

More by this author

The Bible not only promotes good behavior and tells captivating life-learning messages, but it also promotes good health.

“Jesus is our source of strength, endurance, support and nourishment. He is the sustainer of life,” said Dr. Norma DeVault author of Morning by Morning Pathway to Health. “My joy and passion is to help people on their journey to health.”

DeVault says the pathway to health is nature’s very own way. Her book emphasizes teachings based on biblical principles, providing a conceptual framework for a biblical approach to understanding health.

The registered dietitian developed an acronym using the words, Nature’s Own, to describe the morning-by-morning pathway to health to help Christians on their journey to health.

The following is DeVault’s acronym to Nature’s Own:

N stands for nutrition

Give your body the nutrients it needs. Our bodies are designed to be healthy and to regain health. We need to give it the nutrients it needs and get out of the way.

A stands for attitude

Have an attitude of faith, hope and love.

T stands for toxic removal

We need physical, mental and even spiritual cleansing. Get the bad stuff out!

U stands for undo the wrong

It’s not enough to get the bad stuff out. Stop putting it back in!

R stands for rest

Periodically restoring our bodies with sleep from anxiety or disturbance.

E stands for exercise

Regularly and appropriately use your body for physical fitness.

S stands for sunshine

Absorb the warmth and light from the sun, not lying in front of it to get a tan. A few minutes of sunshine improves our Vitamin D status and red blood cells and more.

O stands for oxygen

Breathing clean air is needed for all the metabolic processes and even the conversion of energy.

W stands for water

Drink plenty of pure water. It’s needed for chemical reactions in the body, which are going on constantly.

N stands for nutrition, again

Health begins and ends with nutrition. It’s an ongoing process, not a project that requires steps one, two and three then you’re done.

“Jesus promises to provide things that are essential for our health. Making a lifestyle change requires an all-in approach,” DeVault added. “Begin with, ‘Why do I want to be healthy?’ Spiritual and physical health is important! We are here on Earth to do Jesus’ work, if we are good stewards of the health he has given us, we will be able to serve him longer.”
