FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana Tech has hired Jeff Walker as athletic director. He began his new duties on July 6.

Walker comes to the university with experience in leadership of a growing athletic department. His most recent position was athletic director at Crichton College in Memphis, Tenn. Under Walker’s guidance, Crichton’s athletic programs grew from two men’s sports with 28 student-athletes to five men’s and five women’s sports with almost 200 student-athletes.

“Our athletic programs have grown significantly in recent years, and Jeff Walker has the ability to continue that growth,” said Indiana Tech President Arthur E. Snyder. “That is particularly important as our lacrosse teams debut this coming year and our existing teams continue to excel.”

In addition to the new men’s and women’s lacrosse teams, Indiana Tech also has added women’s volleyball and men’s and women’s tennis, golf, cross country, and track and field within the past five years. Bowling teams are also slated to join the roster in 2010-2011.

“I am looking forward to the opportunity at Indiana Tech,” Walker said. “The athletic department is growing and will continue to grow. It is my goal to assist student-athletes and coaches so they will have the best opportunity for success.”

Walker is committed to the welfare of student-athletes and created the first student-athlete handbook and student-athlete athletic council at Crichton College. Like Indiana Tech, Crichton also was an NAIA Champions of Character institution.

Walker also has coaching experience to give him the perspective to support the university’s coaches. He was head coach of men’s basketball at Crichton and has held other coaching positions at the high school, college, and professional levels.

Walker earned his bachelor’s degree in health and physical education at Belmont University and a master’s degree in health and physical education at Tennessee State University. He also has completed coursework toward a master’s degree in theology from Fuller Theological Seminary.
