After Willie Mathis became a member of the Indianapolis alumni chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity in 2009, he noticed a void of online and brick and mortar Greek stores.
In 2011, Mathis, along with his wife, Starla, began PerfectApparel.com, a website for custom-ordered Greek clothing, out of their basement.Ā
Revenue within the first few months was consistent enough to allow them to expand their services to other businesses and organizations.
After six years, the couple left their professions as an engineer and registered nurse to open a brick and mortar shop on the northwest side of Indianapolis.
āBusiness has picked up significantly,ā Starla said. āWe have a lot of Greek members in the community. It may be from our word of mouth or connections within the area.ā
Charles A. Tindley Schools is one of Perfect Apparelās partners. The website even features some of the schoolās customized T-shirts.Ā
āWe look forward to building partnerships with other businesses in the area. We are excited about the future,ā Starla said. Ā
Jaylan Anderson, a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity was impressed with Perfect Apparelās service.
āMy first visit, I was impressed with the setup and how in place everything was,ā Anderson said. āI went a second time to place an order for a hoodie to be customized, and it was back within the promised 10 days. I would definitely recommend it.ā
Although there is another Greek store on the east side of Indianapolis, the couple believes that their store fills a different void in the community. They believe Perfect Apparel fills a niche by offering a variety of printing and embroidery options.
First-time visitor, Asiha Freeman, said she had a pleasant experience at the store.
āI thought it was nice and had a nice variety of Greek clothing,ā Freeman said. āThe location of the store was a very convenient, and the owners and staff were very friendly.ā
