The Indianapolis Public Library has announced that its 39th annual McFadden Memorial Lecture will be presented by noted children’s author Jacqueline Woodson on Friday, April 15 at 7 p.m. at Northview Middle School, 8401 Westfield Blvd. Families and individuals of all ages are invited to hear Woodson discuss her works and meet the author during a book signing following the presentation.

Woodson’s autobiographical book of verse for young children, Brown Girl Dreaming, received the 2015 Newbery Honor Award and 2014 National Book Award. She received the Coretta Scott King Award for her 2000 book, Miracle’s Boys, and the Margaret Edwards Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2002. In 2015, Woodson was named “Young People’s Poet Laureate” by the Poetry Foundation for a two-year tenure.

Woodson’s appearance will follow McFadden presentations from such esteemed authors as James Baldwin, Judy Blume, Ann Patchett, Neil Gaiman, David McCullough, Kurt Vonnegut, Jr., Mo Willems, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Nicholas Sparks and Louis Sachar. The 2015 McFadden Lecture was presented by Khaled Hosseini, author of The Kite Runner. Each year the lecture alternates between leading adult and children’s writers.
