Greg Wilson named executive director of Indiana Civil Rights Commission

Gov. Eric J. Holcomb has appointed Greg Wilson as executive director of the Indiana Civil Rights Commission (ICRC). The ICRC enforces civil rights laws, investigates discrimination complaints and educates organizations, companies, landlords, associations and individuals on their rights and responsibilities under Indiana civil rights laws. Wilson has a longstanding public service career, including community engagement for then-Lt. Gov. Holcomb and most recently was Special Assistant to the Governor. Wilson also spent eight years as director of the Department of Minority and Womenā€™s Business Development under former Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.

5K to benefit MADD Indiana

Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Indiana will host a Walk Like MADD 5K on May 13 to benefit local MADD officesā€™ programs to end drunk driving as well as services that support drunk driving victims and survivors. The walk begins at 9 a.m. at Hummel Park at the Plainfield Performing Arts Center, 5373 S. County Road 700 E. Register at walklikemadd.org/indiana. In 2016, MADD Indiana served 72 victims and supported law enforcement agencies via trainings, sobriety checkpoints and traffic safety educational programs.Ā

Congress approves $50M to kick-start Red Line construction

A bipartisan recommendation for a government spending bill including funding for a portion of phase one of the Indianapolis Red Line rapid transit program has passed through both houses of Congress and has been signed by President Donald Trump. The Red Line is an element of the Marion County Transit Plan, and phase 1 will become the backbone in a more frequent, grid-based network. IndyGo anticipates breaking ground on the Red Line before yearā€™s end with service expected to commence in 2019. This summer, IndyGo will host several public outreach activities about the Red Line and implementation of the larger Marion County Transit Plan.

Access Pass provides summer activities at greatlyĀ reduced cost

Nine attractions and one affordable price create a wonderful summer full of fun and learning for qualifying low-income Indiana families in Bloomington, Indianapolis and Terre Haute. The Access Pass program helps those who receive state assistance visit select popular attractions, including The Childrenā€™s Museum of Indianapolis, Conner Prairie and more, at a greatly reduced rate of $2 per person per visit for up to two adults and dependent youth living in the household.
