Indianapolis Power & Light Company (IPL) is encouraging its customers to recycle old and outdated refrigerators through its Ditch Your Fridge program. Start your spring cleaning today by taking part in this appliance recycling program. IPL will haul away older model, energy inefficient refrigerators or freezers and give its customers a $30 check in return.

As an extra bonus, customers enrolling in the program between April 1 and June 30 will be entered in a drawing to win a $250 prepaid debit card. Two winners will be selected in July.

Program participants can save as much as $150 a year through lower electricity costs by having an older refrigerator or freezer hauled away. These units typically are kept in basements and garages for extra cold storage, which is often unnecessary. Additionally, recycling a single unit repurposes more than 188 pounds of materials such as foam, glass and metal for future use. This has the same beneficial environmental impact of removing two cars from the road for a year.

To participate in Ditch Your Fridge, call IPL at (877) 395-5535 or go to iplpower.com/DitchYourFridge. Refrigerators and stand-alone freezers must be in working condition and must be between 10 and 30 cubic feet in size. A check for $30 will arrive within six weeks. A maximum of two units per household a year will be accepted.
