Wendy Williams to highlight Women’s Empowerment Series

The 2014 Women’s Empowerment Series promises to be bigger and better than ever. The series, hosted by Radio-One Inc., will be the first event held in the newly renovated Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum on April 26 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

“Creating this type of women’s event is very important to the community. We didn’t want to present the Women’s Empowerment Series the same way that we’ve done it in the past,” said Karen Vaughn, program director and afternoon personality for 106.7 WTLC-AM (1310) The Light.

“We wanted to enhance it because we believe the women of Indianapolis deserve it. They will be pleasantly surprised by the new format.”

This year’s lineup will feature seminars and performances from some of entertainment’s best and brightest. Highlights include a gospel showcase starring Indy’s own Lamar Campbell; WTLC-AM (1310) The Light’s James Fortune, Earnest Pugh and Erica Campbell of Mary Mary; the “Black Men Revealed” relationship panel with actors D.B. Woodside and Malik Yoba; live performances from the entire cast of TV-One’s hit reality show “R&B Divas of L.A.”; singer El DeBarge; and a special “Your Life Matters” discussion with TV-One’s Roland Martin.

The most highly-anticipated event of the day is undoubtedly the keynote appearance of radio personality, best-selling author, and syndicated television talk show host Wendy Williams. “Yes, we all know Wendy for being the fun-loving TV personality,” said Vaughn, “yet she has a very compelling and engaging story that will be powerful for women of all ages.”

In the past, Williams has spoken publicly about her struggles with drug abuse and her rise to fame as a woman in a male-dominated industry.

“The entertainment and empowerment planned is amazing,” said Vaughn. She said the Women’s Empowerment Series will enlighten, inspire and inform, quoting the famed MTV tagline “You think you know, but you have no idea!”
