Junior League of Indianapolis seeks partners to prepare students for academic success

The Junior League of Indianapolis (JLI) has issued a Request for Proposal to community organizations who are aligned with the JLI’s strategic focus of preparing Marion County students for academic success. The JLI will commit its trained volunteers and strategic funding to organizations who are selected for the partnership.

“The Junior League has identified preparing students for academic success as a key objective in how and where we direct our resources,” said Michelle Study-Campbell, JLI president. “To that end, we have developed partnerships with schools and non-profit organizations to ensure young people in Indianapolis have a strong foundation that will support them in school and beyond.”

Since 2014, the JLI has provided financial and volunteer support to Stephen Foster Elementary School (IPS School 67). The JLI has invested more than $100,000 in the first three years of the four-year partnership, and has led school cleanups, a Kids in the Kitchen program, a neighborhood rummage sale, and the refurbishment of the school’s media center. In 2015, the JLI opened a school-based food pantry that serves families with their most basic needs.

Other JLI community partners have included Early Learning Indiana and School on Wheels. The JLI provided Early Learning Indiana with volunteers to support teachers and students in the classroom and in afterschool programming, and offered tuition assistance to low-income families. School on Wheels received funding and volunteer support for its Tutors in Action program.

“There are many organizations in the community who are leading worthwhile initiatives to reach some of our most underserved students, and we are eager to help move these efforts forward,” Study-Campbell continued. “Furthering the education of our young people is more than just a core value for us, it is an actionable goal where we are investing significant financial and human capital.”

The completed RFP must be submitted to the JLI by Jan. 31, 2017. The partnership will begin on June 1, 2017.
