Race for Marion County Sheriff among the best in this year’s election

More by this author

The race for Marion County Sheriff will undoubtedly be one of the most watched of the May 6 primary. Mark Brown, who is challenging incumbent Sheriff John Layton, is a 25-year veteran of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department.

Brown appeared on Amos Brown’s radio show recently where he discussed his opposition to the proposed building of the new Justice Complex among other pressing issues including violence and corruption within the Sheriff’s department.

Republican candidate Emmitt Carney is also tossing his hat into the ring.

In a statement released by the Marion County Republican Party, Carney said, ā€œAs Sheriff, I will create a culture of excellence and not allow the actions of a few tarnish the reputation of the department.ā€

Despite the stiff competition, reports show that Layton is still a favorite in the Sherriff’s race.
