Ivy Tech transferring more students to 4-year colleges

The number of students transferring from Ivy Tech Community College to various 4-year public colleges and universities throughout Indiana has increased 438 percent in the last 10 years, according to Ivy Tech.

More than 8,800 students this past academic year transferred more than 175,000 credit hours, up from 1,015 students and 13,244 credit hours 10 years ago.

In addition, the college said the number of Ivy Tech students transferring compared to last year is up 22 percent. The average number of credit hours transferred to the receiving institution is 20 hours.

Thomas J. Snyder, Ivy Tech president, said, “We have worked with our four-year partners to create seamless transfer programs for our students, and we are beginning to see the outcomes of these wonderful initiatives take shape. We are also appreciative of the Commission for Higher Education for bringing transfer initiatives to the forefront of their statewide goals for colleges.”

Of all the state’s public post-secondary institutions, Indiana University Purdue University-Indianapolis receives the largest number of Ivy Tech transfer students, followed by Purdue University’s main campus in West Lafayette and Indiana University’s main campus in Bloomington.

Ivy Tech is the state’s largest public postsecondary institution and the nation’s largest singly accredited statewide community college system serving nearly 200,000 students annually.

Ivy Tech has campuses throughout Indiana. It serves as the state’s engine of workforce development, offering degree programs and training that are aligned with the needs of its community along with courses and programs that transfer to other colleges and universities in Indiana. It is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the North Central Association.
