The National Black Church Initiative (NBCI), a faith-based coalition of 34,000 churches comprised of 15 denominations and 15.7 million African-Americans, has launched a campaign through social media #LetsComeTogetherAsANation to begin the process of racial healing. After everything that has happened these past years, from the police shootings under the Obama administration, the Charleston, South Carolina, massacre at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, and the most recent deaths of Heather Heyer and others in Charlottesville, Virginia, we need to take the time for racial and spiritual healing.
Rev. Anthony Evans, president of the National Black Church Initiative, says, āThe Black and the white Church is standing up for people who love humanity. Rest in peace, Heather.ā
We plan to stand up for humanity and our nation with an interracial faith-based campaign consisting of all the Black and white denominations: Church of God in Christ, African Methodist Episcopal, African Methodist Episcopal Zion, Christian Methodist Episcopal, Baptists, Pentecostals, Episcopalians, Anglicans, Catholics, Lutherans, Protestants, Apostolic, Presbyterians, Evangelists, United Methodists, Evangelicals, Seventh-Day Adventists, Mormons, Amish, Muslims, Samaritans, Jews and the United Church of Christ, for the primary objective of supporting this ad campaign.
We plan to use social media, commercials and events in our communities geared at crossing the dividing lines that plague the people of America into committing discriminatory and hateful actions toward one another.Ā
