Girls basketball is over (at least for IPS), so we’re exclusive to boys basketball for the rest of the season. One of my most anticipated games of the year — Attucks vs. Washington — is this Friday. Other than that, there weren’t any big surprises last week for IPS teams, and I don’t see anything significant coming up. At this point I’m just coasting until the postseason.
Boys Basketball
Crispus Attucks (13-7)
• Feb. 7 — Crispus Attucks 64, Tindley 56
• Feb. 9 — Culver Academy 64, Crispus Attucks 35
This Week:
• Feb. 15 — vs. George Washington, 7:30 p.m.
There’s no shame in losing to Culver Academy, although I’m willing to bet most don’t believe the Eagles are actually 29 points better than Attucks. Big picture, though: Attucks can get things going again this Friday with what should be a good game against Washington.
Arsenal Tech (5-13)
• Feb. 8 — Lafayette Jeff 82, Arsenal Tech 69
• Feb. 9 — Indianapolis HomeSchool 83, Arsenal Tech 80
This Week:
• Feb. 12 — at Zionsville, 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 15 — at Logansport, 7:30 p.m.
As if losing five of their last six wasn’t bad enough, the Titans have two tough opponents coming up this week. Taking just one those games against Zionsville or Logansport would be a big plus.
George Washington (9-8)
• Feb. 7 — George Washington 80, Indiana Math and Science 40
• Feb. 8 — Guerin Catholic 65, George Washington 64
This Week:
• Feb. 15 — at Crispus Attucks, 7:30 p.m.
Washington was down 22-8 against Guerin Catholic after the first quarter, making for three quarters of come-from-behind basketball just to come up THAT short.
Shortridge (7-11)
• Feb. 5 — Shortridge 86, Indiana Deaf 43
• Feb. 7 — Shortridge 72, Irvington Prep Academy 50
This Week:
• Feb. 14 — at University, 7:30 p.m.
• Feb. 16 — vs. Indiana Math and Science, 7:30 p.m.
University is going to a tough out for Shortridge, but it looks like there’s a really good chance to at least split the week 1-1 before heading down the home stretch next week.
